How The Mawanda Project Started
In July of 2010, The Mawanda Project's founder, Michelle Jue, traveled to Uganda for the very first time on a 25 day mission trip through IMPACT. It was there that she met a 12 year old boy, Bonny Mawanda, who she quickly became friends with and stayed in contact with after her trip. Throughout the years, Michelle often communicated with Bonny and his father, Pastor Daniel Mawanda. Cultivating these relationships, she began to understand the needs for the children and community of Iganga. Less than a year after launching this website in 2014, Michelle raised $1,500 with the goal of sending 15 children to school for their first semester. These donations allowed us to establish the Mawanda Project’s very own school,
Mawanda Daniel (MD) Standard School.
